North Lantau Hospital Hong Kong Infection Control Centre

The North Lantau Hospital Hong Kong Infection Control Centre (HKICC) of HA has started admission of COVID-19 confirmed patients with suitable clinical conditions with effective from February 26.

Kowloon West Cluster is responsible for the management and operation of the HKICC. There are six two-storey ward buildings with a total of 816 isolation beds at the HKICC. All wards are equipped with hospital-grade isolation facilities. HKICC is able to provide intravenous medication and oxygen therapy, which can help alleviate the pressure of isolation beds in public hospitals. In addition, the six independent blocks of ward buildings can be activated in phases according to the evolving epidemic situation, allowing more flexibility in manpower deployment and operation arrangements.

Apart from routine tests for clinical management, the laboratory at the medical centre of HKICC is equipped with the state-of-the-art and fully automated laboratory equipment to further enhance the overall testing capability of Hong Kong healthcare system.

Enhanced Hospital Facilities

In response to the changes in the situation of the spread of COVID-19 in Hong Kong, HA has retrofitted one to two general wards in each cluster into standard negative pressure wards to provide around 500 additional standard negative pressure beds as "Tier-2 isolation ward". Another batch of Tier-2 isolation beds has been made available in end-August 2020, taking the total Tier-2 isolation bed capacity to around 660 beds.
