On 21 June 2013, Finance Committee of the Legislative Council approved the funding of HK$12,985.5 million for the Hong Kong Children's Hospital project and the works was commenced in August 2013.

Ground Breaking Ceremony of the Hong Kong Children’s Hospital
The Ground Breaking Ceremony was officiated by the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor. The new hospital was officially named as Hong Kong Children’s Hospital at the ceremony.

The Permanent Secretary for Food and Health (Health), Mr Richard YUEN, JP, accompanied by the Chairman of Hospital Authority, Professor John Leong Chi-yan, and Hospital Authority Chief Executive, Dr Leung Pak-yin, paid a visit to the off-site mock-up of the Hong Kong Children’s Hospital in November 2015.

Hong Kong Children's Hospital commence services by phases.
The Hong Kong Children's Hospital provides clinical services by phases
starting on 18 December 2018 including specialist outpatient clinics for
oncology, nephrology, and metabolic medicine. Pathology, radiology and pharmacy
departments will also begin operation in parallel to support the clinical service
provision.

Hong Kong Children’s Hospital commences inpatient service.
The Hong Kong Children’s Hospital commences its inpatient service by phases starting from 27 March 2019, beginning with paediatric haematology and oncology ward, paediatric intensive care unit and operating theatres services.

Hong Kong Children's Hospital officially opened.
The Hong Kong Children's Hospital (HKCH) celebrated its official opening on 21 June 2019.
The hospital's opening ceremony was officiated by the Secretary for Food and Health,
Professor Sophia Chan. Other guests attending the ceremony included the Hospital
Authority (HA) Chairman, Professor John Leong and the HA Chief Executive,
Dr Leung Pak-yin; the HKCH Hospital Governing Committee Chairman, Mr John Lee;
the Dean of the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong,
Professor Gabriel Leung; the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of the Chinese
University of Hong Kong, Professor Dennis Lo; Kowloon Central Cluster Chief Executive,
Dr Albert Lo, and the HKCH Hospital Chief Executive, Dr Lee Tsz-leung.
 
The operation of the HKCH has commenced in phases since December 2018.
Services currently available include oncology and haematology, nephrology,
metabolic medicine, intensive care, paediatric surgery, pathology, anaesthesia,
radiology, pharmacy and allied health services. Other clinical services will commence
gradually.
