Queen Mary Hospital, phase 1 Established in 1937, Queen Mary Hospital (QMH) is an acute hospital in the Hong Kong West Cluster of the Hospital Authority.  It provides a full range of acute and tertiary services, as well as specialist services.

It also serves as a tertiary and quaternary referral centre for many complex and advanced services such as organ transplant, burns and reconstructive surgery for the entire territory, and it is the only designated liver transplant centre in Hong Kong, providing world-class standard liver transplant service.

Furthermore, as the teaching hospital of the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong, QMH also provides professional clinical training, pioneers innovative technology and conducts clinical trials for new treatment modalities.

However, the services development and technological advancement of QMH have been limited by the outdated design of its facilities, insufficient clinical space and unsatisfactory service zoning. Hence, the hospital will be redeveloped progressively into a modern health sciences centre to cope with the growing clinical service and teaching demands.
The scope of works for the phase 1 redevelopment project of QMH comprises the following:

  • demolition of Clinical Pathology Building, University Pathology Building and Housemen Quarters for the construction of a new block (Clinical Block 1, i.e. CB1); and

  • provision of a rooftop helipad solely for medical emergency purposes, a link bridge connecting CB1 and existing hospital building, and a new access point for emergency vehicles from Pokfulam Road.
