The then Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Mr Donald Tsang, officiated at the Foundation Laying Ceremony of North Lantau Hospital, phase 1.

The construction works commenced in January 2010.

On 13 May 2011, Finance Committee of the Legislative Council approved the funding of HK$590.5 million for the redevelopment of Yan Chai Hospital project. In addition, the Yan Chai Hospital Board has undertaken to contribute HK$90.0 million towards the capital cost of the project.

Hospital Authority Chief Executive, Dr Leung Pak-yin, joined the then Minister of Health Mr Chen Zhu to officiate the topping out ceremony of the Ambulatory Block.

On 24 June 2011, Finance Committee of the Legislative Council approved the funding of HK$1,719.6 million for the main works of the phase 2 redevelopment of Caritas Medical Centre project. In addition, Caritas Hong Kong has undertaken to contribute HK$50.0 million towards the capital cost of the project.

Hospital Authority Chief Executive, Dr Leung Pak-yin, joined the then Secretary for Food and Health, Dr York Chow, and HK Jockey Club Board member, Dr Donald Li, to host the ceremony held in September 2011.

The officiating guests visited the model of the new building and was introduced the design concepts and structure of the new building by the project architect after the ceremony.

On 13 July 2012, Finance Committee of the Legislative Council approved the funding of HK$352.3 million for preparatory works of the expansion of United Christian Hospital.

The construction works of North Lantau Hospital completed in December 2012 according to schedule. It is now in the progress of installing the facilities and equipment for the service commencement.

On 8 February 2013, Finance Committee of the Legislative Council approved the funding of HK$552.7 million for the preparatory works of Kwong Wah Hospital redevelopment.

On 8 February 2013, Finance Committee of the Legislative Council approved the funding of HK$3,910.9 million for the Tin Shui Wai Hospital project. The construction works commenced in February 2013.

The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Mr C Y Leung, accompanied by the Secretary for Food and Health, Dr Ko Wing-man, the then Hospital Authority Chairman, Mr Anthony Wu, and Hospital Authority Chief Executive, Dr Leung Pak-yin, officiated at the Topping Out Ceremony of Caritas Medical Centre Wai Ming Block (new ambulatory/rehabilitation block) on 11 April 2013.

Upon completion of the redevelopment, the scattered service and facilities of Caritas Medical Centre among different hospitals blocks are rationalized and are mainly situated in Wai Shun Block (acute block) and Wai Ming Block (ambulatory/rehabilitation block).

A link bridge was constructed to facilitate commuting between the two blocks. Another link bridge connects Wai Oi Block, which accommodates the supporting service and administrative offices, with Wai Shun Block. The two link bridges were completed in May and November 2013 respectively.

On 21 June 2013, Finance Committee of the Legislative Council approved the funding of HK$1,891.6 million for the Reprovisioning of Yaumatei Specialist Clinic at Queen Elizabeth Hospital project and the works was commenced in July 2013.

The hospital commences patient services in phases starting from 24 September 2013. Services provided in the initial phase include eight-hour accident & emergency (A&E) services, allied health services and community service.

Two new specialist out-patient clinics for medicine and psychiatry respectively as well as the new Community Health Centre have been put into operation since 30 September 2013.

The new ambulatory/rehabilitation block was completed in November 2013. It accommodates various clinical services, including rehabilitation, infirmary and hospice wards, General Outpatient Clinic, Specialist Outpatient Clinic, Geriatric Day Hospital, and other allied health and supporting service.

The Chairman of Hospital Authority, Professor John Leong Chi-yan, accompanied by Hospital Authority Chief Executive, Dr Leung Pak-yin, and Kowloon West Cluster Chief Executive, Dr Nancy Tung Sau-ying, paid a visit to North Lantau Hospital on 1 December 2013.

Professor Leung was deeply impressed by the state-of-the-art facilities and the people-centered design that meets the expectations and requirements of frontline colleagues and patients.

The Topping Out Ceremony for the community health and wellness centre (Block C) was held on 14 January 2014. The Cluster Chief Executive of Kowloon West Cluster of Hospital Authority, Dr Nancy Tung, accompanied the then Chairman of Yan Chai Board, Dr Raymond Leung Cheong-ming, to host the ceremony.

The community health and wellness centre comprises a Health Resource Centre, Primary Care Centre and Specialist Care Centre, providing multi-rehab services, family medicine services, a specialist outpatient department, adolescent services and community nursing services.

A community oil painting activity was organized by the contractor of TSWH to enhance community engagement. Students from primary and secondary schools in Tin Shui Wai were invited to submit paintings outlining the new hospital and healthcare professionals. Their paintings were subsequently displayed on the hoardings of construction site. Award of appreciation was presented to the students to acknowledge their participation.

    

The Ground Breaking Ceremony was officiated by the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor. The new hospital was officially named as Hong Kong Children’s Hospital at the ceremony.

The hospital commenced 24-hour A&E operation on 25 September 2014 to meet the increasing demand for round-the-clock A&E service.

Inpatient service of 20 acute beds and 20 convalescent / rehabilitation beds, specialist outpatient services for surgery and orthopaedics and traumatology, as well as the Day Rehabilitation Centre also started operation in mid-September.

The two temporary buildings located in United Christian Hospital and Tseung Kwan O Hospital are for decanting the services and facilities at Blocks F, G, H and P (Low) to be demolished.

Hospital Authority arranged a briefing on 15 April 2015 to introduce the redevelopment project to the major stakeholders. Yau Tsim Mong District Council members, neighborhood owner’s operations, representative from school and NGOs attended the briefing and share their views on the projects.

Members of the Culture, Recreation, Community Service and Housing Committee of the Yuen Long District Council were invited to visit the construction site of Tin Shui Wai Hospital. Representatives from New Territories West Cluster and Architectural Services Department updated members of the progress of construction works.

    

The temporary building located in KH was completed in May 2015 for decanting of ancillary facilities such as medical records, linen, book and general stores, as well backup offices etc.

On 22 May 2015, Finance Committee of the Legislative Council approved the funding of HK$563.3 million for the refurbishment project of Hong Kong Buddhist Hospital and the works commenced in June 2015. In addition, the Hong Kong Buddhist Association has undertaken to contribute HK$10.0 million towards the capital cost of the project.

On 22 May 2015, Finance Committee of the Legislative Council approved the funding of HK$893.1 million for the expansion of the Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service Headquarters project and the works were commenced in June 2015. In addition, the Hong Kong Red Cross has undertaken to contribute HK$20.0 million towards the capital cost of the project.

On 10 July 2015, Finance Committee of the Legislative Council approved the funding of HK$1,791.6 million for the main works (demolition and substructure works) of the expansion of United Christian Hospital. The demolition of the existing Blocks F, G and H and P (Low) and the substructure works for Block A and Block S Extension commenced in August 2015.

The demolition of Wai On Block, Wai Tak Block and Wai Yan Block for the construction of a rehabilitation garden, external landscaping, and improvement works of access road and hospital entrances was completed in October 2015.

The Permanent Secretary for Food and Health (Health), Mr Richard YUEN, JP, accompanied by the Chairman of Hospital Authority, Professor John Leong Chi-yan, and Hospital Authority Chief Executive, Dr Leung Pak-yin, paid a visit to the off-site mock-up of the Hong Kong Children’s Hospital in November 2015.

The Chief Secretary for Administration of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Mrs Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, accompanied by the Secretary for Food and Health, Dr Ko Wing-man, the Hospital Authority Chairman, Professor John Leong Chi-Yan, and Hospital Authority Chief Executive, Dr Leung Pak-yin, officiated at the Opening Ceremony of the redeveloped new Wai Ming Block (New Ambulatory/Rehabilitation Block) at Caritas Medical Centre on 3 March 2016.

Renovation works at G/F and 1/F of Tung Po Court for off-site decanting of Chinese Medicine Clinical Research and Services Centre were completed in early 2016 and a housewarming ceremony was held on 29 March 2016.

On 22 April 2016, Finance Committee of the Legislative Council approved the funding of HK$167.2 million for extension of Operating Theatre Block for Tuen Mun Hospital (substructure and utilities diversion works) project. The construction works commenced in May 2016.

On 29 April 2016, Finance Committee of the Legislative Council approved the funding of HK$750.8 million for the redevelopment of Kwai Chung Hospital, phase 1 project. The construction works commenced in May 2016.

On 29 Apr 2016, Finance Committee of the Legislative Council approved the funding of HK$2,073.0 million for the expansion of Haven of Hope Hospital project and the works commenced in July 2016. In addition, the Haven of Hope Christian Service has undertaken to contribute HK$43.0 million towards the capital cost of the project.

On 29 April 2016, Finance Committee of the Legislative Council approved the funding of HK$654.8 million for demolition and substructure works for phase 1 redevelopment of Kwong Wah Hospital. Four existing buildings, namely, South Wing of Main Hospital Building, Nurses’ Quarters, Administration Building and Chinese Medicine Clinical Research and Services Centre will be demolished, foundation works, excavation and lateral support works as well as other associated site works commenced in June 2016.

Subsequent to the funding approval from Finance Committee of the Legislative Council, the substructure and utilities diversion works of Extension of Operating Theatre Block for Tuen Mun Hospital commenced in May 2016.

With an aim to contribute to the community and to save more lives, the project team used the theme of 2016 World Blood Donor Day “Blood connects us all - Share life, Give blood” to organise a group donation in the Mong Kok Donor Centre on 14 June 2016. More than 50 team members registered and donated blood on the day.

Hospital Authority arranged consultations with the Kwun Tong District Council (DC), Kowloon City DC and Wong Tai Sin DC on 22 November 2016, 15 December 2016 and 3 January 2017 respectively. Yau Tsim Mong DC was also consulted on 24 November 2016 and 30 March 2017.

The clinical services currently provided at Yaumatei Specialist Clinic (YMTSC) in Battery Street, Yau Ma Tei, will be relocated to the new specialist clinics building in QEH starting on 12 December 2016. The new building is named “Ambulatory Care Centre (Extension) / Block T” (the Extension).  Some of the facilities and services of the existing QEH Ambulatory Care Centre will also be relocated to the Extension.

Situated next to QEH Ambulatory Care Centre, the Extension is connected by two footbridges to the first floor of QEH Ambulatory Care Centre and Block H taxi stand respectively.  The Extension is built to meet the needs of future development and services demand, and also provides quality medical services to patients.

 

The new Tin Shui Wai Hospital (TSWH) is scheduled to commence patient service in
phases from 9 January 2017 to meet the service demand of Tin Shui Wai
residents.

The Hospital Chief Executive of TSWH, Dr Deacons Yeung said, “In the initial phase,
ambulatory service will be provided from Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm, including
specialist out-patient clinics for medicine and geriatrics, orthopaedics and
traumatology, and family medicine; while renal dialysis, allied health,
diagnostic radiology, pharmacy and community nursing will also be put into
operation at the same time.

As more time is required to prepare for the opening of A&E service to ensure
the provision of safe and quality care with comprehensive support to emergency
patients, the A&E Department of TSWH will commence the first phase of
service on 15 March 2017 by operating from 8am to 4pm daily.”

Dr Yeung added that after service commencement in the initial stage, the New
Territories West Cluster will assess various factors including operation,
service demand, patient safety and human resources of the new hospital in order
to decide the commencement schedule of other services.

   

On 10 January 2017, Hospital Authority reported the updated status of the extension of Operating Theatre Block for Tuen Mun Hospital at the meeting of the Social Services Committee of Tuen Mun District Council. Members of the Committee supported the project.

The Health and Environment Committee of the Sha Tin District Council was consulted on 9 March 2017.

Tin Shui Wai Hospital (TSWH) will commence daily 8-hour Accident and Emergency
(A&E) services with effect from 8am on 15 March 2017 in order to provide a
more comprehensive healthcare service for residents in Tin Shui Wai district
and areas nearby.

In the initial phase, the 8-hour A&E services of TSWH open from 8am to 4pm
daily with an estimation of 150 to 200 attendances per day. The Hospital Chief
Executive of TSWH, Dr Deacons Yeung, said TSWH A&E is the third A&E
department in the New Territories West Cluster. This new service point not only
provides convenience to Tin Shui Wai residents, but also shares the workload of
both the Tuen Mun Hospital (TMH) and Pok Oi Hospital (POH). 

 “According to our statistics, among the daily
attendances at A&E departments of TMH and POH, around 250 of them are
residents of Tin Shui Wai and around half of them attended the service between
8am to 4pm. Therefore, after service commencement of TSWH A&E, it is
estimated that around 50 percent of Tin Shui Wai residents who require
emergency medical service could be covered”, said Dr Yeung.

The Hospital Authority (HA) is planning to initiate procurement of the following services for New Acute Hospital (NAH) at Kai Tak Development Area (KTDA) and Redevelopment of Prince of Wales Hospital (PWH), phase 2 - stage 1 projects:

1. Project Management Consultancy Services;
2. Architectural Consultancy Services;
3. Building Services Engineering Consultancy Services;
4. Structural, Civil & Geotechnical Engineering Consultancy Services; and
5. Quantity Surveying Consultancy Services

For NAH at KTDA project, invitation for tender has been issued. For PWH, phase 2 - stage 1 projects, invitation for tender will be issued soon.

On 19 July 2017, Finance Committee of the Legislative Council approved the funding of HK$769.3 million for the preparatory works of New Acute Hospital at Kai Tak Development Area.

On 19 July 2017, Finance Committee of the Legislative Council approved the funding of HK$2,729.7 million for the main works of Extension of Operating Theatre Block for Tuen Mun Hospital.

On 19 July 2017, Finance Committee of the Legislative Council approved the funding of HK$1,231.1 million for the preparatory works of Redevelopment of Prince of Wales Hospital, phase 2 (stage 1).

Subsequent to the funding approval from Finance Committee of the Legislative Council, the main works of Extension of Operating Theatre Block for Tuen Mun Hospital commenced in September 2017 for completion in 2022.

The Hospital Authority has completed the procurement of the following services for New Acute Hospital (NAH) at Kai Tak Development Area (KTDA) and Redevelopment of Prince of Wales Hospital (PWH), phase 2 - stage 1 projects in September 2017:

Hospital Authority arranged consultations with the Wong Tai Sin District Council (DC) and Kwun Tong DC both on 9 January 2018, Yau Tsim Mong DC on 25 January 2018 andKowloon City DC on 1 February 2018 respectively. Members of these four DCs supported the proposed project.

The site works for substructure and utilities diversion works of Extension of Operating
Theatre Block for Tuen Mun Hospital was completed in 29 March 2018.

On 18 May 2018, Finance Committee of the Legislative Council approved the funding of HK$10,049.3 million for main works (superstructure and associated works) for phase 1 redevelopment of Kwong Wah Hospital. In addition, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals has undertaken to contribute HK$34 million towards the capital cost of the project. The first phase of a new hospital complex will be constructed to accommodate most of the core clinical services currently located in the Main Hospital Building and associated external and landscaping works will be provided.

On 18 May 2018, Finance Committee of the Legislative Council approved the funding of HK$13,556.0 million for main works of phase 1 redevelopment of Queen Mary Hospital.  It is planned to commence the main works in October 2018 for completion of the whole project in 2024. The project aims at rebuilding the hospital into a modern medical centre with additional space to meet operational needs, as well as improved physical design and accessibility for more efficient clinical operations and the promotion of integrated research and education.

On 18 May 2018, Finance Committee of the Legislative Council approved the funding of HK$5,356.8 million for the foundation, excavation and lateral support, and basement excavation works of New Acute Hospital at Kai Tak Development Area.

To vacate Clinical Pathology Building, Pathology Building (HKU) and Housemen Quarters for the demolition works and construction of a new block, the final phase of the relocation works was completed in early August 2018. The facilities and services of the aforementioned three buildings (e.g. laboratories of Department of Pathology and Department of Microbiology, teaching facilities, offices of clinical departments, call rooms, etc.) have been smoothly relocated to Block T (the converted Senior Staff Quarters) and have commenced full operation.

There were 19 works contracts in 2017, 9 of which were for major capital works projects and 10 for minor works projects. The number of man-hours worked in 2017 was around 4,070,000 man-hours. There were 9 reportable industrial accidents but no fatal accident occurred. The overall accident rate per 100,000 man-hours was 0.221.

The Hong Kong Children's Hospital provides clinical services by phases
starting on 18 December 2018 including specialist outpatient clinics for
oncology, nephrology, and metabolic medicine. Pathology, radiology and pharmacy
departments will also begin operation in parallel to support the clinical service
provision.

Construction works commenced in June 2015 and the new annex block was substantially completed in December 2018.  Refurbishment of existing building is in progress for completion in 2020.

Members of the Health and Environment Committee of the Sha Tin District Council supported the proposed demolition and foundation works on 10 January 2019.

Members of the Panel on Health Services of the Legislative Council supported the demolition and foundation works on 18 Mar 2019.

The Hong Kong Children’s Hospital commences its inpatient service by phases starting from 27 March 2019, beginning with paediatric haematology and oncology ward, paediatric intensive care unit and operating theatres services.

The refurbishment works commenced in June 2015 including:

• refurbishment of  Blocks A, B and D
• conversion of 6/F of Blocks A and B to accommodate 130 additional beds
• conversion of 1/F and 2/F of Block C for day rehabilitation, geriatric day services and pilot integrative medicine in palliative care
• construction of a covered link bridge between Blocks B and C
• provision of a new lift tower adjacent to Block B
• installation of fire services sprinkler systems

In June 2016, the Hospital Authority commenced the demolition and substructure works for phase 1 redevelopment of Kwong Wah Hospital which include demolition of four existing buildings, namely, South Wing of Main Hospital Building, Nurses’ Quarters, Administration Building and Chinese Medicine Clinical Research and Services Centre. The works were completed in May 2019 and the superstructure and associated works for phase 1 was commenced on 27 May 2019.

The Hong Kong Children's Hospital (HKCH) celebrated its official opening on 21 June 2019.
The hospital's opening ceremony was officiated by the Secretary for Food and Health,
Professor Sophia Chan. Other guests attending the ceremony included the Hospital
Authority (HA) Chairman, Professor John Leong and the HA Chief Executive,
Dr Leung Pak-yin; the HKCH Hospital Governing Committee Chairman, Mr John Lee;
the Dean of the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong,
Professor Gabriel Leung; the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of the Chinese
University of Hong Kong, Professor Dennis Lo; Kowloon Central Cluster Chief Executive,
Dr Albert Lo, and the HKCH Hospital Chief Executive, Dr Lee Tsz-leung.
 
The operation of the HKCH has commenced in phases since December 2018.
Services currently available include oncology and haematology, nephrology,
metabolic medicine, intensive care, paediatric surgery, pathology, anaesthesia,
radiology, pharmacy and allied health services. Other clinical services will commence
gradually.

On 22 November 2019, Finance Committee of the Legislative Council approved the funding of HK$481.3 million for the preparatory works of Expansion of North District Hospital.

On 22 November 2019, Finance Committee of the Legislative Council approved the funding of HK$481.3 million for the prepatatory works of Expansion of Lai King Building in Princess Margaret Hospital.

On 22 November 2019, Finance Committee of the Legislative Council approved the funding of HK$7,452.1 million for the phases 2 and 3 redevelopment of Kwai Chung Hospital.

There were 32 works contracts in 2018, 19 of which were for major capital works projects and 13 for minor works projects. The number of man-hours worked in 2018 was around 5,700,000 man-hours. There were 14 reportable industrial accidents, including 1 fatal accident. The overall accident rate per 100,000 man-hours was 0.243.

On 26 June 2020, Finance Committee of the Legislative Council approved the funding of HK$16,214.1 million for the main works (superstructure and refurbishment works) of the expansion of United Christian Hospital. In addition, the United Christian Medical Service has undertaken to contribute HK$100 million towards the capital cost of the project. The superstructure and refurbishment works and associated works are planned to commence in the third quarter of 2020.

Foundation & Basement Excavation Works Contracts for both Site A and Site B of the project commenced in September 2018. Pile foundation works at Site A are in progress while the pile foundation works at Site B were completed in April 2020. Basement excavation at Site B commenced in July 2020 as scheduled. Concurrently, project team is preparing the detailed design of the Main Building Works of the project.

There were 32 works contracts in 2019, 20 of which were for major capital works projects and 12 for minor works projects. The number of man-hours worked in 2019 was around 6,985,000 man-hours. There were 13 reportable industrial accidents and 0 fatal accident in 2019. The overall accident rate per 100,000 man-hours worked was 0.186.

On 9 July 2021, Finance Committee of the Legislative Council approved the funding of HK$30,441.1 million for the main
works of New Acute Hospital at Kai Tak Development Area.

There were 35 works contracts in 2020, 22 of which were for major capital works projects and 13 for minor works projects. The number of man-hours worked in 2020 was around 7,000,000 man-hours. There were 9 reportable industrial accidents and 0 fatal accident in 2020. The overall accident rate per 100,000 man-hours worked was 0.128.

Foundation & Basement Excavation Works Contract for Site B of the project completed in February 2022. Main Works Contract for Site B commenced subsequently.

Subsequent to the funding approval from Finance Committee of the Legislative Council, the main works of Extension of Operating Theatre Block for Tuen Mun Hospital commenced in September 2017 for completion of the construction of new OT extension block in 2022.

Members of the Panel on Health Services of the Legislative Council supported the main works of Redevelopment of PWH, phase 2 (stage 1) on 1 April 2022.

The Opening Ceremony of Trinity Block of Haven of Hope Hospital (HHH) today (15 June 2022) marked a new milestone in HHH's rehabilitation and infirmary services development. 

The opening ceremony was officiated by the Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam. Other guests attending the ceremony included the Secretary for Food and Health, Professor Sophia Chan; the Chairman of the Hospital Authority (HA), Mr Henry Fan; the Chief Executive of the HA, Dr Tony Ko; the Chairman of the Hospital Governing Committee of HHH, Professor Joseph Kwan; the Chief Executive Officer of Haven of Hope Christian Service, Dr Lam Ching-choi; the Chairman of the Sai Kung District Council, Mr Francis Chau; the Cluster Chief Executive of Kowloon East Cluster, Dr Deacons Yeung; and the Hospital Chief Executive of Tseung Kwan O Hospital and Haven of Hope Hospital, Dr Kenny Yuen.

Trinity Block will be able to provide 160 additional extended care beds and re-provisioning of 116 infirmary beds. Clinical, supporting and auxiliary facilities will also be expanded to support additional inpatient care services as well as to enhance service capacity and operational efficiency. The total number of beds in HHH will also be increased from 521 to 681 after the expansion.

  

On 24 June 2022, Finance Committee of the Legislative Council approved the funding of HK$21,978.8 million for the main works of Redevelopment of PWH, phase 2 (stage 1).

There were 41 works contracts in 2021, 21 of which were for major capital works projects and 20 for minor works projects. The number of man-hours worked in 2021 was around 12,000,000 man-hours.  There were 9 reportable industrial accidents and 0 fatal accident in 2021.  The overall accident rate per 100,000 man-hours worked was 0.075.
