In addition to hospital services, the provision of supporting services and facilities is crucial for the Hospital Authority (HA) to support the continually expanding clinical services to meet the heavy demand for public healthcare services. The Hospital Authority Supporting Services Centre (HASSC), located next to the North Lantau Hospital (NLTH), is one of the projects under the First Hospital Development Plan. It provides laundry, patient catering, critical personal protective equipment (PPE) and key linen storage, as well as data centre services to support the NLTH and other public hospitals.
The HASSC building comprises the following hospital supporting service facilities -
a) Central Laundry Centre
The central laundry centre provides laundry services for public hospitals. Automated systems and robotics technology are adopted to enhance operational efficiency. Its annual production capacity is around 33 160 000 kilograms, representing about 50% of the projected service demand for HA by 2030.
(b) Central Food Production Unit (CPU)
The CPU adopts cook-chill technology to prepare patient meals, enhancing food safety and optimising food quality. Up to 14 700 000 patient meals could be provided to hospitals under HA annually, which is equivalent to around 50% of the total projected patient meals requirement of HA by 2030.
(c) Information Technology (IT) Corporate Data CentreThe
IT corporate data centre can accommodate 500 IT equipment racks to cater for around 50% of the projected total data centre requirement of HA, providing support to HA's overall IT applications and services.
(d) Central Emergency Stores
The central emergency stores at the HASSC store critical PPE, key linen items and emergency supplies, ensuring flexibility in response to pandemics, disasters, or emergencies, thereby strengthening the HA's emergency response capabilities.
The construction of HASSC completed in June 2024 with its phased commissioning in the first quarter of 2025. The establishment of the HASSC shall enhance patient supporting services and facilities of the HA, becoming an indispensable part of public healthcare services and complementing clinical services.
