Redevelopment of Kwong Wah HospitalFounded in 1911 and located in a densely populated area, Kwong Wah Hospital (KWH) provides a comprehensive range of acute care services in the Kowloon Central Cluster of the Hospital Authority. The current buildings of KWH were constructed in 1960s and 1980s but extremely heavy utilization of its facilities for coping with the growing service demand has accelerated their deterioration. Though numerous improvement works have been carried out over the years to address the issues of inadequate space and outdated facilities, the situation is still suboptimal for accommodating the service need and service modernization of KWH.

Therefore, a redevelopment of KWH will be carried out to facilitate the provision of modern and safe services for meeting future healthcare needs of the community. The redevelopment will modernise KWH to enhance its operational efficiency, as well as to provide a patient-oriented environment for the delivery of holistic and seamless healthcare services.

The project comprises:
  1. Demolition of all its existing buildings in phases (except for the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (TWGHs) Tsui Tsin Tong Outpatient Building and Tung Wah Museum, which are located within the hospital area);
  2. Construction of a new complex;
  3. Alteration/addition works to TWGHs Tsui Tsin Tong Outpatient Building; and
  4. Landscaping and road works.
Preparatory works of the project commenced in 2013 and is in progress. Demolition and substructure works for phase 1 commenced in June 2016 and completed in May 2019. Superstructure and associated works for phase 1 commenced in May 2019 and completed in December 2022.  Main works for phase 2 commenced in July 2023.
