Kwong Wah Hospital

On 8 February 2013, Finance Committee of the Legislative Council approved the funding of HK$552.7 million for the preparatory works of Kwong Wah Hospital redevelopment.

Hospital Authority arranged a briefing on 15 April 2015 to introduce the redevelopment project to the major stakeholders. Yau Tsim Mong District Council members, neighborhood owner’s operations, representative from school and NGOs attended the briefing and share their views on the projects.

The temporary building located in KH was completed in May 2015 for decanting of ancillary facilities such as medical records, linen, book and general stores, as well backup offices etc.

Renovation works at G/F and 1/F of Tung Po Court for off-site decanting of Chinese Medicine Clinical Research and Services Centre were completed in early 2016 and a housewarming ceremony was held on 29 March 2016.

On 29 April 2016, Finance Committee of the Legislative Council approved the funding of HK$654.8 million for demolition and substructure works for phase 1 redevelopment of Kwong Wah Hospital. Four existing buildings, namely, South Wing of Main Hospital Building, Nurses’ Quarters, Administration Building and Chinese Medicine Clinical Research and Services Centre will be demolished, foundation works, excavation and lateral support works as well as other associated site works commenced in June 2016.

On 18 May 2018, Finance Committee of the Legislative Council approved the funding of HK$10,049.3 million for main works (superstructure and associated works) for phase 1 redevelopment of Kwong Wah Hospital. In addition, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals has undertaken to contribute HK$34 million towards the capital cost of the project. The first phase of a new hospital complex will be constructed to accommodate most of the core clinical services currently located in the Main Hospital Building and associated external and landscaping works will be provided.

In June 2016, the Hospital Authority commenced the demolition and substructure works for phase 1 redevelopment of Kwong Wah Hospital which include demolition of four existing buildings, namely, South Wing of Main Hospital Building, Nurses’ Quarters, Administration Building and Chinese Medicine Clinical Research and Services Centre. The works were completed in May 2019 and the superstructure and associated works for phase 1 was commenced on 27 May 2019.

Hospital Authority arranged consultations with the Yau Tsim Mong District Council on 31 January 2023.

On 30 June 2023, Finance Committee of the Legislative Council approved the funding of HK$8,900.4 million for main works (demolition, foundation, superstructure and associated works) for phase 2 redevelopment of Kwong Wah Hospital. In addition, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals has undertaken to contribute HK$96.0 million towards the capital cost of the project.
