Caritas Medical CentreEstablished in 1964, Caritas Medical Centre (CMC) provides a full range of acute, rehabilitation, ambulatory and community medical services to residents in Sham Shui Po. Over the years, most of its hospital blocks were dilapidated and there was inadequate clinical space to meet service demand arising from the growing and ageing population in the district. Hence, a redevelopment project of CMC commenced in 1997 in two phases:
Phase 1
Two hospital blocks, Wai Lok and Wai Mon Blocks, were demolished for the construction of a new acute block, Wai Shun Block, to accommodate inpatient wards, accident and emergency department, intensive care unit and operating theatres. It was completed in 2002.

Phase 2
Phase 2 is composed of three stages:
  • 1st stage - demolition of Wai Ming Block and construction of a new lift tower, which was completed in 2011.
  • 2nd  stage - construction of a new ambulatory/rehabilitation block at the old site of Wai Ming Block to provide one-stop ambulatory, rehabilitation and geriatric services; construction of two link bridges connecting Wai Shun Block and Wai Oi Block with the new block.  It was completed in 2013.
  • 3rd stage - demolition of Wai On Block, Wai Tak Block and Wai Yan Block for the construction of a rehabilitation garden; construction of walkway linking Wai Yee and Wai Shun Blocks; and improvement works of access road and external landscaping.  It was completed in 2015.

After the redevelopment of CMC, the hospital is now equipped with modernised facilities and additional space, which will provide better quality and more appropriate health care services to the public.
